Shang Ring Circumcision

We use a unique sutureless method for circumcision that only takes 15 minutes. It is painless and does not require any injections or stitches.

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin.

Common reasons Doctors would recommend a circumcision are:

  1. Recurrent infections of the foreskin
    1. This is usually due to Diabetes or medicines used to treat diabetes
  2. Foreskin that is too tight
    1. This is called phimosis and can cause pain, infection or affect sexual function
  3. Foreskin that got stuck behind the head of the penis
    1. This is called a paraphimosis and is a medical emergency. A circumcision can prevent this from happening.
  4. Inflammatory conditions of the head of the penis
    1. There are various skin conditions that cause redness of the head of the penis that may be cured by circumcision.
  5. Warts of the foreskin
    1. Warts caused by HPV growing on the foreskin may be difficult to treat and may require a circumcision.
  6. To improve sexual function

At our medical center, we employ a sutureless system for circumcision. This means the procedure is done without needing any injections or stitches.

First a numbing cream is applied. Then a plastic ring (Shangring) is locked into place. The foreskin can then be painlessly removed.

The Shangring takes up to 2 to 3 weeks to drop off leaving a very pleasing aesthetic result.

FAQ

Is it painful?

No. We use a numbing cream before the procedure which makes it painless. After the procedure there is also minimal discomfort. Some patients may need to take some oral painkillers for a few days depending on individual tolerance levels.

How long does it take?

After the numbing cream is applied, it is left on for about 30 minutes to take maximum effect. The actual surgical procedure only takes 15 minutes After which, the Shangring takes about 2 to 3 weeks to fall off spontaneously.

Is there any downtime?

No. Patients can comfortable walk out immediately after the procedure. There is no effect on going to the bathroom. Some patients may find the ring a little cumbersome and if this gets unbearable, we can consider removing the ring earlier depending on the individual clinical situation.
