Circumcision

Circumcision

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin.

At our clinic, our Doctors are experienced in a number of different techniques of circumcision to help you achieve the look you want. Including Laser, ShangRing, Stapler and Conventional Circumcisions. We will also recommend the technique best suited to you to treat your medical condition.

Common reasons Doctors would recommend a circumcision are:

  1. Recurrent infections of the foreskin
    1. This is usually due to Diabetes or medicines used to treat diabetes
  2. Foreskin that is too tight
    1. This is called phimosis and can cause pain, infection or affect sexual function
  3. Foreskin that got stuck behind the head of the penis
    1. This is called a paraphimosis and is a medical emergency. A circumcision can prevent this from happening.
  4. Inflammatory conditions of the head of the penis
    1. There are various skin conditions that cause redness of the head of the penis that may be cured by circumcision.
  5. Warts of the foreskin
    1. Warts caused by HPV growing on the foreskin may be difficult to treat and may require a circumcision.
  6. To improve sexual function

You can decide on the look that you ultimately want to achieve after circumcision.

Tightness – This refers to how much skin is removed. Some people prefer a very “tight” circumcision where all of the foreskin is removed. Some prefer a “looser” circumcision.

High or Low – This refers to the amount of pink inner foreskin left behind. Some people prefer most of the inner skin removed. This is called a “high cut”. While some would prefer leaving some inner skin behind.

Preputioplasty – This refers to a procedure where the tightness of the foreskin is corrected without removing the foreskin

Limited Circumcision – This refers to a procedure where only the tight ring of foreskin is removed leaving most of the foreskin behind.

FAQ

Is it painful?

All circumcision surgeries, regardless of technique, can be done painlessly under local anaesthesia. We also have facilities for general anaesthesia (asleep) if that is preferred.

What is the recovery like?

We recommend patients to rest for 2 days after the surgery. After that, patients can resume normal activities but are advised to refrain from strenuous exercise, swimming and sex. Most patients heal fully in 3 to 4 weeks. Passing urine during the healing process is also completely unobstructed and painless. We are able to provide hospitalisation/medical leave certificates if necessary.

Can Medisave or Insurance be used?

Medisave can be used and the claim is capped at $650. Most hospitalisation insurances will cover for this procedure. If you are unsure if your insurance policy covers for the procedure please do contact us and we can assist you with it. If you require insurance pre-authorisation application we can also assist.

Shang Ring Circumcision

Shang Ring Circumcision

We use a unique sutureless method for circumcision that only takes 15 minutes. It is painless and does not require any injections or stitches.

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin.

At our medical center, we employ a sutureless system for circumcision. This means the procedure is done without needing any injections or stitches.

First a numbing cream is applied. Then a plastic ring (Shangring) is locked into place. The foreskin can then be painlessly removed.

The Shangring takes up to 2 to 3 weeks to drop off leaving a very pleasing aesthetic result.

FAQ

Is it painful?

No. We use a numbing cream before the procedure which makes it painless. After the procedure there is also minimal discomfort. Some patients may need to take some oral painkillers for a few days depending on individual tolerance levels.

How long does it take?

After the numbing cream is applied, it is left on for about 30 minutes to take maximum effect. The actual surgical procedure only takes 15 minutes After which, the Shangring takes about 2 to 3 weeks to fall off spontaneously.

Is there any downtime?

No. Patients can comfortable walk out immediately after the procedure. There is no effect on going to the bathroom. Some patients may find the ring a little cumbersome and if this gets unbearable, we can consider removing the ring earlier depending on the individual clinical situation.

Preputioplasty

Preputioplasty

Treatment for tight foreskin (Phimosis) without Circumcision

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin is abnormally tight. In mild cases, the foreskin can still be retracted when the penis is flaccid. But gets uncomfortably tight when the penis is erected. In severe cases, the foreskin cannot be retracted at all.

Phimosis increases the risk of urine infection, infection of the foreskin (balanitis) and even infection of the head of the penis (balanoposthisis). It can also cause other complications like the foreskin getting stuck behind the head of the penis (paraphimosis) and even affects sexual function.

The conventional treatment for phimosis is a circumcision. However, some men would prefer to keep their foreskins.

Phimosis can be treated and yet allow the patient to keep his foreskin. This is also known as foreskin preservation surgery.

There are 2 methods that we employ at our clinic.

  1. Preputioplasty
In this method, we make an incision into the foreskin and gently break away the tough fibrous tissue that is causing the tightness. We then reconstruct the foreskin such that it can much more easily slide down the penis.
  2. Limited Circumcision
In this method, we remove only the tight ring of foreskin that is causing the constriction. Leaving the majority of the foreskin behind. After the procedure, there will still be foreskin covering the head of the penis but yet is able to retract easily.

FAQ

Can this procedure be done for all forms of phimosis?

This procedure is only recommended for physiologic phimosis. If the clinical diagnosis is balanitis, BXO or foreskin warts, a formal surgical circumcision is recommended instead. Our Doctors will be able to advise you on the best treatment for you after a clinical examination.

Is the procedure painful?

Both procedures can be done painlessly under local anaesthesia. We also have facilities for general anaesthesia (asleep) if that is preferred.

How is the recovery?

We would advise patients to rest for 2 days after the procedure. Medications including antibiotics and painkillers will be provided. Patients can resume normal activities after 2 days but still have to avoid strenuous physical exercise, swimming and sexual intercourse. Most patients heal fully by 3 to 4 weeks.

Peyronie Disease (Bent Penis)

Weight Management

Peyronie Disease is a common medical condition in which a hard plaque forms in the penis and eventually leads to an abnormal curvature of the penis.

Peyronie Disease occurs in 2 phases:

Hot phase – This is often identified by pain in the penis, especially upon erection and lasts from a few months to up to a year.

Cold phase – The pain resolves during this phase, and a hard lump called a plaque forms in the penis which causes it to bend.

Several treatments are available for treating Peyronie Disease:

During the hot phase, anti-inflammatory medicines and ESWT can reduce the pain and control the inflammation.

Penile curvature can be treated with various treatments including:

  1. ESWT
  2. PRP injections
  3. Calcium Channel Blockers
  4. Surgery to straighten the penis will be recommended if medical treatment is not effective.

Peyronie Disease is commonly mistaken with Congenital Curvature of the penis. However, this is identifiable by the lack of plague in Congenital Curvature of the penis.
