Straits Times: How Men Can Play a Vital Role in Battling Cervical Cancer

Every year, hundreds of women in Singapore are diagnosed with cervical cancer. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the main reason for the development of cervical cancer.

An often-neglected aspect is HPV infection among men which can then be transmitted to women. In many cases, HPV infections are asymptomatic – this means that the virus can be passed to their female partners without the man’s knowledge.

Thus, there is a need to raise awareness among men to protect their female partners from HPV-related cervical cancer. On top of that, it also allows men to better protect themselves from genital warts and cancer caused by HPV.

To ensure you and your loved ones’ health, do consult a doctor to discuss how you can better protect yourself and your partner from HPV infection.
