Incretin-based medicines have gained significant attention for their ability to improve blood sugar control, support weight loss, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular and kidney disease. These medications work by mimicking naturally occurring hormones in the body that regulate appetite, glucose levels, and other metabolic processes.
Tirzepatide is one of the latest incretin-based medicines and is approved in Singapore for the treatment of diabetes. It is administered as a once-weekly, self-administered subcutaneous injection.
Tirzepatide works by mimicking the actions of hormones that are normally released after meals. Through its multiple physiological effects, it helps improve blood sugar regulation, promotes weight loss, and contributes to a reduced risk of heart and kidney disease.
The most common side effect associated with tirzepatide is nausea. Other commonly reported side effects include constipation or diarrhoea. These effects are usually mild to moderate and tend to improve as the body adjusts to treatment.
